1. What is Lomov’s explanation of Ox-Meadows becoming a disputed piece of land?
Ans. Lomov’ explains that the Ox-meadows is his property and it was given by his aunt’s grand-mother to Natalia’s paternal great grandfather’s peasants without any rent on the said plot. Lomov admits that there went some quarrels about the Ox-meadows but it was settled afterwords and everybody knows that it belongs to him (Lomov).

2. What does Choobookov say about Lomov’s father and grand father?
Ans.Choobookov abused Lomov’s father and grandfather. He said to him that his grandfather would drink like a fish and his father was a gambler and he looked like a pig while eating.

3. Why does Lamov refer to the land settlement?
Ans. Lomov refers to the land settlement because he claims that the ex-meadows belongs to him and to settle the dispute he told to go to the (land settlement) court.

4. Why does he complain all the time of palpitation and veins throbbing?
Ans. Lomov is a short tempered person, resulting in heart’s weakness. During hot-heated discussion with Natalia his heart starts palpitating and veins throbbing.

5. Why does Natalia cry and weep to know that Lomov has come to propose to her? 
Ans. Natalia cries and weeps because the proposal of marriage is not discussed and the other matter of disputes about Ox-meadows takes place. So she repents on her indulging in hot heated discussion with Lomov which was quite unjustified. She was quite unaware of the fact that Lomov had come for the marriage proposal which she later knew.

6. Give the character sketch of Lomov.
Ans – Lomov is the hero of ‘A Marriage Proposal’. He is a land- owner. He is a young man of thirty – five years. He becomes nervous very soon. He loses his temper whenever he is upset. He looks very funny when he complains about his ill – health. He is short – tempered. He quarrels with Natalia over the ownership of an ox – meadow. He also quarrels with her over the superiority of his dog . He loses temper and starts abusing Choobookov and Natalia both . Lomov is a funny and foolish character . His dress , manners and behaviour everything makes him a laughing stalk . He is still a bachelor . He wants to marry Natalia not out of love but because he is already a grown – up man . He has no sense of beauty . He wants to marry Natalia only because she is a good housekeeper .

7. Give the character sketch of Natalia.
Ans – Natalia is the heroine of the play ‘ A Marriage Proposal . She is twenty – five years old. She is still unmarried . It causes great worry to her father . Natalia wishes that somebody should love her and propose her . She is very quarrelsome . Lomov comes to propose to her , but she starts quarrelling with him over the ownership of a piece of land . Lomov leaves her house in a fit of anger . When she comes to know that he had come to propose her , she starts weeping . She asks her father to bring him back . When Lomov comes back , she tries to please him . But after some time , she starts quarrelling with him again over the dog . Lomov faints. and she missing the opportunity to get married again. After some time , Lomov regains conscious . Her father does not want to lose this opportunity . He at once puts Natalia’s hand in the hand of Lomov . He announces that they are engaged with each other. Natalia become very happy . But she again starts quarrelling with him . Thus , Natalia is an interesting character.

8. Give the character sketch of Choobookov.
Ans – Choobookov was the owner of a land who lives with his daughter named ” Natalia “. He was always like an antagonistic man . But while talking to others he was always politely . Even he welcomes the man name ” Lomov ‘ very kindly who comes to propose his daughter . The Chookoobov was the greedy man when it’s comes to a Marriage for his daughter . But he was also considered a loving father .

9. What was Choobookov reaction when he came to know about Lomov coming to his house ?
Ans – When lomov entered the house  Choobookov thought that fat chances are that he might have come after money . So , he treated him very coldly .

10. What justification did Lomov give to Choobookov to prove that he is the right owner of meadow ?
Ans – Lomov told Natalia and Choobookov that his aunt’s grandmother gave the Meadows for the temporary and free use of Choobookov grandfather’s peasants . So , he is the rightful owner of the open meadows .

11. Why does lomov think that his age is criticalage?
Ans – Lomov is concerned about his marriage because he is already thirty – five . So , he thinks he ought to lead a quiet and regular life . He wants to be settled . Moreover , he is not perfectly fit and healthy . He suffers from anxiety, palpitations and strange fear .

12. What was Natalia’s reaction when she came to know that Lomov had come to propose her ?
Ans – After a little tiff with Lomov and driving him out of his house , Choobookov discloses to Natalia about his purpose of visit . When Natalia gets to know about Lomov’s proposal , she starts weeping. She asks her father to bring Lomov back . It shows that she is even more desperate to marry Lomov.

13. What did Natalia say about Guess ?
Ans – Natalia believed that Guess had become old and ought to be shot . She also claimed that Leap was hundred times better than a Guess.

14. What according to Lomov , is the main defect of leap ?
Ans – Lomov’s opinion about leap was not positive . He considered Leap a bad hunter. Lomov was sure that Leap’s lower jaw was shorter than the upper .

15. Why did Lomov want to marry Natalia ? Give two reasons .
Ans – Lomov wanted to marry Natalia as soon as possible . Now he had already been 35 old and so he wanted to settle down . There was no one behind him . He was a sick person. He wanted a better half who could look after him properly .

16. Describe how Choobookov got Natalia married to Lomov ?
Ans – Choobookov thought that Lomov had come to borrow money from him but when he told him that he had come to propose his daughter he was overjoyed and even shed a tear . He kissed and embraced Lomov . He told Lomov that he had hoped it for a long time . In fact , Choobookov , secretly wished Lomov to marry his daughter as he knew that Lomov was a rich and prosperous farmer and his only daughter could live a comfortable life with him . No wonder , he was overjoyed to know that Lomov was there to propose his daughter.
