275. SEC 151- Creativity and Resistance (1)
Creative resistance (or the universal force against creativity) is a concept created by American novelist Steven Pressfield. Resistance is the reason many people don’t achieve their creativity and dreams. Resistance is anything that stops the artist or creative thinker from taking creative action, including inner fears, procrastination, and self-doubt. Resistance is universal and inevitable.
Creative Resistance is invisible but its effects are very real. It may seem to come from outside of you, it is self-generated and self-perpetuated. It is also a force of nature and a liar.
Reasons for Creative Resistance-
i)Procrastination is a common symptom of Creative Resistance because it’s the easiest to rationalize.
ii)Fear is another perfect weapon. All strengths and powers come from our fears. Self-doubt and
iii)Perfectionism are other rooted reasons.
iv)Shaming and accusatory voice also resists creativity.
Ways to stop Resistance in Creativity -
i)Dedicating oneself to work every day stops resistance in Creativity.
ii)Working hard and regular show up is necessary. Routine and self-control are crucial for overcoming resistance. A professional creative person puts one's work first and foremost.
iii)Self-doubt is a normal component of the creative process and it shouldn't be used as an excuse to give up. Instead, one should use it as motivation to advance and get better
