SEC 101. Teamwork Skills
Teamwork skills are the abilities that enable employees or others to work together toward a common goal. They are a mix of soft skills that support the group’s or organisation's efforts and make the most out of everyone’s contributions. Businesses looking to optimize how their teams interact must carefully customize their learning and development programs with these skills in mind.
Working with a group of people to achieve a shared goal or outcome in an effective way, actively listening to other members of the team, supporting struggling friends and team mates, approaching teamwork with a positive attitude, working for the good of the group as a whole, and having a say and sharing responsibility are some of the traits that are expected in a successful teamwork.
Such a team can be one where everyone’s unique skills and strengths help the team achieve a shared goal in the most effective way. One needs to understand which type of team player one is, so that one can maximise one's strengths.
Strong teamwork skills enable employees to perform well within a group. These skills can be divided into two types: They are, Personal skills and Affiliative skills.
Personal skills, which are internally focussed and allow the employee to take on an effective role within the team.
Affiliative skills, which are outwardly focussed and promote cooperation.
If one has good people-skills, one will make a good team player, and skills like communication and having a positive attitude make a team great. It is a virtue to be able to mediate between groups or within members in a group. Soft skill is required to achive a common goal for the team. Teamwork is expected to be collaborative even at the time of severe problems.
One of the softskill is volunteering for responsibilities. When the team members volunteer, it provides support to the team. Any new ideas can be shared by the volunteer for the good of the team. Volunteering in workplaces is highly expected, appreciated and may be of immense help for the good of the organisation. In this way, together they achieve professional goal or target while celebrating with team members.
For personal goals it is necessary to learn, listen, read, and watch. This may again help tremendously in a future team to reprepare, remain ready with a positive mindset and achieve higher performance.
Some of the famous examples of teamwork is working together as an army when the country is desperate need. Gandhi leading the country for independence is another common example of teamwork. In case of the latter, we witnessed how Gandhi's personal self helped the nation enter in a new character of freedom and democracy.
